Pupils from Bishop Gore School have enjoyed an unusual storytelling and shadow puppet workshop thanks to a partnership with Gower College Swansea.
As part of the Reaching Wider Programme the pupils were able to work with artist David Pitt, drawing and cutting out individual puppet shapes from card and using them to create original stories.
“Reaching Wider enables us to offer a range of learning and aspiration-raising activities that can create pathways into further education," says organiser Lucy Turtle. "I was very fortunate to have David from Shapeshifters on board as he was able to deliver a fascinating storytelling and creative activity. It was a great opportunity for the pupils to work in teams and develop their communication and problem solving skills which will aid their future progression.”
“This was a fantastic introduction for my Year 9 group who have opted to study GCSE Art next term," adds Bishop Gore teacher Alison David ."This collaboration with Gower College Swansea has been a great success and hopefully it will continue with future projects.”
"I enjoyed the session immensely as it wasn't just creating singular pieces of work, it was creating pieces that - in the end - were used to add imagination to a bigger scheme - a story," says pupil Ellie Medwell.
