Bishop Gore School pupils organised a recent enterprise event at Gower College Swansea as part of their Kick Start qualification.
The concept behind 'Hot Diggity Dog' was to make and sell hot dogs to staff and students at the Tycoch campus in order to raise money for Llys Nini Animal Centre.
“The learners are passionate about caring for animals and therefore wanted to raise funds for their favourite charity," says Lecturer Lucy Turtle. "They got busy in the college kitchens, cooking and preparing the hot dogs with Catering lecturer Stephen Williams. This really enhanced their insight into the hospitality industry and inspired an interest in progressing onto a full time course in this discipline area.”
“The students worked really hard to achieve their unit goals for their Customer Service in Hospitality qualification," adds Lecturer Rebecca Metcalf. "It was great to see how they transferred the skills they have learned in class into real life - theory turned into something practical. They also did a great job working with the general public and using these new-found skills.”
“The event was a great success and we received great feedback from staff and students," says Lucy. “We would like to thank everyone for all their support - we raised over £50 to give as a donation to Llys Nini. I was delighted with the learners' dedication and their strong work ethic during the event. We will now reward them by organising a day trip to Llys Nini where they can hand over the donation and get to meet some of the animals."
