Gaming = fitness for Enterprise students

A specially selected team of enterprising students represented Gower College Swansea at the Global Enterprise Challenge finals in Cardiff last month, with an unusual futuristic concept that combines gaming with physical exercise.

The students - Alex Williams, Luke Williams, Hannah Moses, Ryan Evans, Joshua David Jenkins and Nia Griffiths – worked together in response to a brief to create an online business with a ‘disruptive’ slant.

“Their idea for ‘Third Eye Gaming’ asked the question - ‘what if the world of gaming could be revolutionised to promote health and fitness?’ says the college’s Enterprise Development Officer Ben Room. “Over the two day event, they explored how they could encourage gamers to engage in physical exercise and outdoor pursuits while they play.”

The team were tasked not only with creating the initial idea but with putting together a marketing strategy that would set them apart from competitors – from market research to logos, merchandising and carrying out a SWOT analyses.

“It was such a great experience, I learned so much in just two days and really had to step out of my comfort zone,” says Nia who is currently applying to universities in the United States.

The Global Enterprise Challenge is a Welsh Government endorsed scheme designed to encourage entrepreneurial spirit and vision among young people.
