Former student - and inspirational entrepreneur - Chris Ware recently delivered a tour and workshop for Level 1 Sport and Public Services students at his Funky Pump fitness warehouse in Swansea.
Funky Pump is an award-winning concept which combines fitness with house music in a unique nightclub-style setting. With live DJs banging out sets while qualified instructors take you through your paces, there really is no other class like it around.
“I'm totally dedicated to helping young people fulfil their own personal goals, dreams and aspirations," says Chris. “It doesn’t seem like that long ago that I was in their position, with no real clear path ahead of me but - through setting goals and hard work and a lot of sweat - I am now in a position where I feel I can motivate the next generation."
Fitness professional and boxer Chris previously worked within the nightclub security industry and recognised a gap in the market to amalgamate the two disciplines. In so doing, he devised and developed the original idea of hosting a fitness class in a nightclub environment.
"The students enjoyed the day, especially the circuits and the music - even though they couldn't feel their arms afterwards," says Gower College Swansea's Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle, who organised the visit alongside Sport lecturer Tim Buckley. "Chris has given them an opportunity to put some theory into practice and have fun at the same time."
