Important information about our Gorseinon Campus open evening, 16 November 2023

Here is some important information for anyone thinking of coming along to our open evening at the Gorseinon Campus on Thursday 16 November (5.30pm – 7.30pm)

Due to our £17m refurbishment of the Campus – which will result in enhanced facilities including social space, a new atrium and classrooms - there might be some extra things to consider before you visit us.

Please pre-register for the event if you can. Not only will this likely save you time when you arrive but it will also allow us to keep in touch with you with any event updates.

Staff recognised at Long Service Awards

Staff from Gower College Swansea were recently (Friday 10 June) invited to a special celebratory event at the Swansea.com stadium.

The Long Service Awards have been set up to recognise and thank those members of staff who have worked at the College for more than 20 years.

Lecturers, managers and business support staff from across all areas of the organisation received personalised gifts before enjoying an afternoon tea.

Covid update: changes to measures from Monday 9 May

In line with today's announcement from Welsh Government regarding changes to covid restrictions for educational settings, the College will now start to move towards a position where, whilst there is no requirement for most restrictions, they will still be encouraged.

At the current time, the numbers of positive covid cases are still relatively high, and therefore it will now be up to individuals to make their own judgement in terms of whether they will continue to follow the measures.

So what does this mean for the College?

From Monday 9 May:

Update on covid measures after Easter

We are continuing to work closely with the local Incident Management Team (IMT) and Public Health Wales to ensure we have the measures in place to keep our students learning and the College community safe. These currently include:

Hands - continue to wash and sanitise hands
Face - wear a face covering in communal areas (unless exempt)
Space - keep a physical distance from others

Update on student and staff covid testing

As you are aware, the Welsh Government have now lifted most covid-19 restrictions and we are slowly moving back to life pre-pandemic.

However, the advice to both schools and colleges is to continue to operate with the health and safety measures we already have in place. This will help to ensure we can keep everyone learning.

Incident in the Gorseinon area (10 February)

We are aware of a violent incident in Gorseinon Bus Station last night (Thursday 10 February).

South Wales Police have since issued a Section 60 notice, which gives officers the authority to stop and search anyone within the area, this includes the Gorseinon Campus.

Although this incident would appear to have no links to the College, we are encouraging all students to stay on campus today.

We also have support officers available to anyone who feels they have been affected by this incident.
