Gower College Swansea have announced that they have become a member of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce.
Last week I wrote once again to all of our College students thanking them all for their continued engagement with their studies and their ongoing hard work.
I want to reassure you that the College continues to work with the range of examination bodies who validate the different courses we offer, to better understand how our students’ performance is to be assessed in these very different and challenging times.
It’s been three weeks since I last updated you on the progress the College is making on the range of challenges we are currently facing.
I would again wish to thank all of you for your continued engagement with your studies. Whilst staff are continuing to both teach and provide tutorial and pastoral support online, the response from you has been excellent and clearly will help prepare you for your next step, whatever that may be.
Huge congratulations to Motor Vehicle student Andrew Tipton and Foundation Degree Sport / Football Academy student Danny Williams who took home the awards for Progression (6th Form/College) and Sporting Star at the Swansea Bay Radio Young Achievers Awards at the Towers Hotel.
Members of Gower College Swansea's Netball Academy team took part in the recent Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay in Swansea.
As winners of a Swansea Sports Award in 2016, the team were invited to accompany the Baton Bearer during Leg 6* of the Relay, which took place between Blackpill and the 360 Beach and Watersports Centre.
Seven Gower College Swansea students have been awarded sports scholarships for the 2015/2016 academic year.
The students are:
Timothy Hewitt has become the first GCS Training student to achieve CMI Chartered Manager status.
Tim started as a part time student at Sandringham Park where he embarked on a Level 3 ILM Management qualification. He felt that, as a Minister in the Church in Wales, he needed to develop himself in the field of management and leadership due to the role and responsibilities he had within the Church for the Parish and the volunteers.
Gower College Swansea’s Science Academy got off to a rocking start when Dr Mark Lewney visited the Gorseinon campus.
‘Rock Doctor’ Lewney, winner of the first ever FameLab competition, is a guitar physicist who blows the ears with rock guitar and blows the mind with superstring theory.
The Science Academy, which is partly funded through the Reaching Wider project, will run every other week at the Gorseinon campus and at various times throughout the year at Tycoch.
