Singing workshops with Mark Llewelyn Evans
As part of the St David’s Day / Mis Cŵl Cymru celebrations at Gower College Swansea, baritone Mark Llewelyn Evans conducted music workshops with Performing Arts students, many of whom are keen to study music and acting at university.
Mark studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before attending the National Opera Studio. His performances include classical and popular songs, Rodgers & Hammerstein hits, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, film scores and Celtic ballads.

GCS Training, the business training arm of Gower College Swansea, has officially opened a brand new Energy Centre at its new Hill House site.
Julie James, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, was among the special guests at the launch event. The Minister was shown around the fully refurbished facilities and saw first-hand how the centre will deliver state-of-the-art training courses for the electrical, gas and plumbing trades.
Five-star venue welcomes Hospitality students
Hospitality students from Gower College Swansea recently attended an industry taster day at the five-star Oldwalls Gower.
During the visit, which was organised by the college’s Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle and lecturer Stephen Williams, the students enjoyed a behind the scenes tour of the award-winning venue. They also attended workshops with the head chef, catering manager, wedding coordinator and sales team.

College hosts Mechanical Engineering regional finals
Gower College Swansea recently played host to the SkillsCompetition Wales final for Mechanical Engineering (CAD).
Students from across Wales converged at the Gorseinon campus on 17 March, where they were given practical tasks to complete under the watchful eye of a panel of judges drawn from education and industry.

Singer / songwriter – and star of BBC’s The Voice – Bronwen Lewis recently visited Gower College Swansea’s Tycoch campus.
Bronwen met with Hair and Beauty students before performing a selection of numbers from her new album, Pureheart.
There was also a special screening of the film Pride, in which Bronwen appears. Based on a true story, Pride tells the story of a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the miners’ strike in 1984.

Around 100 learners from Gower College Swansea attended the recent Annual Student Conference at Sketty Hall.
During the day, students took part in various workshops based on the theme of ‘how to succeed at college and in life.’
Motivational speaker Lee Jackson was also on hand to inspire students on how to stay motivated through ups and downs and how to remain passionate about achieving set goals.
On the day students were encouraged to bid for up to £1500 from curriculum funding for equipment they felt would enhance their learning experience.

Engineering students from Gower College Swansea took the top two places at the recent SkillsCompetition Electronics all Wales final.
Niko Leuchtenberg and Matthew Sutch, who are studying towards the Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (Digital Technology) at the Tycoch campus, scooped Gold and Silver respectively at the event at Coleg Cambria.
There were three separate sections to the final – construction of a circuit, prototype of a circuit and a theory examination – which all 15 competitors had to complete within a set time.

Rising cricket star - and Gower College Swansea student - Aneurin Donald is heading to Australia after being selected for the England Development Programme (EDP) tour.
It’s been an exceptionally busy time for A Level student Aneurin as he juggles his studies with membership of the Glamorgan County Cricket Club. He was initially awarded a development contract with Glamorgan in 2014 and, that summer, was selected for England Under-19s, making his first-class debut in the final match of the season where he made 59 against Hampshire in the second innings.
