An update for all students – 12 February
From Monday 22 February, our campuses will be open for a small number of vocational students only.
In this first phase, these students are likely to be those studying engineering, construction, catering and accountancy (AAT) courses who have qualifications that require a license to practice element.
There will also be a small number of students who will be notified to come in to College to undertake essential assessments that cannot be undertaken online or remotely, which may include lab technician apprenticeships and some applied vocational science.

Gower College Swansea becomes first educational partner of The UK Fashion & Textile Association in Wales
The first fashion and textile apprentices in Wales successfully qualified at Gower College Swansea last year, with more set to follow this year. The College is the only pan-Wales, Welsh Government approved provider for Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeships levels 2-4, and has recently become the first educational partner of the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT) in Wales.

Apprentices and employers celebrated at Virtual Awards
To celebrate Apprenticeship Week Wales 2021, Gower College Swansea has organised a week-long programme of virtual events and activities from live chat rooms and information sessions to free webinars and YouTube tutorials.
One very important element of the College’s celebrations is the Virtual Apprenticeship Awards, held across Twitter and LinkedIn this week, and designed to highlight the very best of the best apprentices, employers and assessors.

A blended learning approach to accountancy
Gower College Swansea has teamed up with Mindful Education to offer a range of flexible accountancy courses that are delivered through a combination of online lessons and on campus classes – perfect for these unusual times.
Working in partnership, the College and the London based education technology form will deliver AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualifications from levels 2 to 4, courses that cover a range of disciplines including bookkeeping, costing, and management accounting.

Gower College Swansea students win Rob Brydon competition
Four Gower College Swansea students have been presented with prizes for the under 18 category of the 9to90 Creative Community Portrait Competition.
The annual competition, organized by Jane Simpson of GSArtists, gives the community an opportunity to come together from all ages and abilities and to have their work exhibited in the gallery. This year, however, the exhibition was virtual and the theme was actor Rob Brydon, with Brydon and his family judging the entries.

Further update from Principal Mark Jones – 9 February 2021
Last week, the Education Minister announced that a small number of vocational students would be able to return to College from Monday 22 February which, as you will hopefully be aware from my previous update, we have been planning towards for the past couple of weeks.
The students who will be prioritised for return are those needing to undertake assessments to complete their qualifications and achieve their license to practice.

On Monday 25 January, Gower College Swansea celebrated the Welsh patron saint for love St. Dwynwen’s day a little bit differently.We decided to award positive stories by asking staff and learners to nominate a person who has been friendly, loving and shown community spirit over the past year.

Important update on online teaching and learning - 29 January
Following today's (29 January) update from the First Minister, Gower College Swansea will continue to provide online teaching and learning support for students, in line with Welsh Government guidelines.

Gower College Swansea has become the first college in Wales to receive an Accredited Award from the Autism Accreditation Committee.
In a project led by Ceri Low, the College has worked with the National Autistic Society (NAS) for the past three years, a process that involved continuous assessment and monitoring of our work with autistic learners, and our links with the local community and stakeholders.
