Menopause training vest raises awareness of symptoms

Staff and students at Gower College Swansea were encouraged to get a little hot under the collar when they had an opportunity to try out a Menovest TM

The Menovest TM is a menopause training tool, developed by Over The Bloody Moon, that has been specially designed by Thread Design to replicate the sensations a person feels when having a so-called menopausal ‘hot flush’.

College sponsors Child of Wales award

Gower College Swansea is extremely proud to once again sponsor the Outstanding Charity category at the forthcoming 2023 Child of Wales Awards. 

Director of Skills and Business Development Paul Kift and Head of GCS Training Bruce Fellowes recently attended a special sponsors’ lunch in preparation for the event, which is taking place on 24 March at the Mercure Holland House Hotel, Cardiff. 

This is a wonderful event that recognises the efforts and achievements of courageous children, their families and the charities that support them.

Lord Chief Justice offers local learners a chance to hear from judges

The most senior judge in England and Wales today visited Gower College Swansea. He was there to give the students the chance to hear about the work of judges, the justice system and the rule of law.

Lord Burnett of Maldon, the Lord Chief Justice of England & Wales visited the College as part of the school’s engagement programme that judges are involved in across the country.

Mari Lwyd brought to life at Gower College Swansea

The 17th-century Welsh cultural celebration took place at our Llwyn y Bryn, Tycoch and Gorseinon campuses, as a flash-performance of the Mari Lwyd horse made its way through the sites.   

Mari Lwyd (Y Fari Lwyd in Welsh meaning Old Grey Mare), is traditionally a New Year celebration to pass the marking of the dark days of winter and welcome the spring. Once celebrated across Wales, it’s now a tradition associated with south and south-east of the country.

Apprenticeship open evening and information sessions for Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2023 is the 16th annual celebration of apprenticeships in the UK and brings together businesses and apprentices to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. It coincides with Apprenticeship Week Wales (AWW) which aims to celebrate and promote apprenticeships in Wales as a valuable pathway into work or a new career.

Graduate combines acting ambitions with Higher Apprenticeship

Graduate Cedron Sion has agreed to be an Apprenticeship Ambassador as he pursues a profession as a translator alongside his acting ambitions.

A few months after completing an Acting Degree, Cedron, 26, from Porthmadog, successfully applied for an apprenticeship post as a translator with the Welsh Language Services Team at Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW/AaGIC).

Acting lecturer appointed to awarding body role

Gower College Swansea lecturer Wyn Richards has joined the UAL Awarding Body's External Developer Register.

Wyn joined the College in 2015 and currently leads the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance UAL (Acting Company) course.

He is delighted that he will now have the opportunity, in addition to the day job, to apply his knowledge, skills and experience to help shape qualifications provision now and into the future.
