A Level student Eleri Reed has won first prize in a competition run by Aston University for Year 12 English Language students across the UK.
Not only did Eleri win the first prize of a £50 book voucher but her classmates will also receive a personalised lecture on a topic of their choice, recorded especially for them by a member of Aston University’s academic staff.
For the competition, Eleri had to demonstrate her language analysis skills by writing a 650-word exploration of how language featured in NHS advertisements encourage the public to visit their pharmacist for minor illnesses.
“It’s fantastic to see a Gower College Swansea student winning an English Language competition at this national level,” says lecturer Shona Sutherland. “And that the whole class gets to benefit from this success is a real bonus. Very well done, Eleri!”
