Students selected to attend prestigious IET event

Two Tycoch-based Engineering Technology students have attended the 2017 IET South Wales Prestige Lecture and Dinner at the Liberty Stadium.

Evelyn O’Brien and Mateus Ligocki, who both study the BTEC Level 3 course at the Tycoch campus, were selected from over 50 full time students to attend this prestigious event, which was hosted by the IET Wales South West Local Network.

Michelle was the face of SkillsCymru – will you be next?

The hunt for aspiring TV presenters, radio DJs or YouTubers is on, as young people across Wales are encouraged to apply to be the “face” of SkillsCymru.

SkillsCymru is Wales’ largest annual series of careers, skills, jobs and apprenticeship events and will return to Llandudno and Cardiff in October 2017.

The organisers are searching for new “hosts”, who will be followed by a film crew as they explore the event and interview exhibitors and visitors.

Gower College Swansea...in China

Gower College Swansea Principal Mark Jones and International Manager Kieran Keogh recently visited Guangzhou (Southern China) to discuss the prospect of opening a Gower College Swansea-branded A Level campus there.

Mark and Kieran held successful meetings with both the investment team and the Local Education Bureau and conducted two site visits regarding potential locations for the campus.

For the past six weeks, pupils from local schools have attended a Saturday Club at Gower College Swansea which aims to develop their skills and enthusiasm for engineering. 

The Saturday Club allows pupils to access the expertise of the teaching staff, the industry-specific equipment and on-site facilities of the Tycoch campus.

VQ Day 2017

Gower College Swansea is looking forward to supporting VQ Day 2017.

The College currently offers around 40 vocational pathways for full time learners, which includes courses in subjects as diverse as catering, digital technology, beauty, sport and travel and tourism.

A Bridge to career progression for Selena

A Bridge to career progression for Selena

When Selena Massey started on the Bridge Programme at Gower College Swansea, she was undecided about where her future career path lay.

Now, two and a half years later, Selena is employed as a brake and suspension technician with Kwik Fit, and she fully credits the Bridge Programme with helping her gain her focus and confidence.

“I started the programme willing to give everything a go,” says Selena. “I knew that practical subjects would be my strongest point and I was able to access support with my maths and English so that now I have qualifications in those subjects.”
