Gold Card holder a first for GCS Training
An electrician from Clydach has become the first candidate to graduate from GCS Training’s Energy Centre and qualify for a Gold Card from the Joint Industry Board.
Shaun Farthing, who has completed the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Experienced Worker Scheme) is employed by Hornbill Engineering in Llandarcy.
The Joint Industry Board – the governing body for the electrical contracting industry - introduced the Experienced Worker Scheme to ensure that everyone working within the industry has relevant, up to date qualifications.

Pupils from Bishop Gore School have enjoyed an unusual storytelling and shadow puppet workshop thanks to a partnership with Gower College Swansea.
As part of the Reaching Wider Programme the pupils were able to work with artist David Pitt, drawing and cutting out individual puppet shapes from card and using them to create original stories.

Students at Gower College Swansea are celebrating after maintaining an excellent overall 98% pass rate at A Level, with 1738 separate exam entries.
Of these passes, 77% were at the higher grades of A*- C, 53% were at grades A*- B and 23% were at grades A* - A.
The overall pass rate at AS Level was 90%, with 63% of those passes being grades A-C and 43% being grades A or B. There were 3138 separate exam entries for AS.
“I’m delighted that we have maintained our excellent overall pass rate of 98% at A Level,” says Principal Mark Jones.

The Welsh Ambulance Service has taken on two new apprentices.
Demi Tamplin and Rhiannon Harries, both from Swansea, started in their new roles as apprentice business secretaries last week after successfully taking part in an interview process.
During their time with the Trust they will be undertaking an NVQ Diploma in Business Administration in partnership with Gower College Swansea, working towards their Level 2 qualification.
The programme has been funded by the Welsh Government with money from the European Social Fund.

An apprentice from electronic manufacturing company Trojan has won the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Local Network Prize for outstanding achievements in the sector.
Apprentice Stefano Amoruso from Swansea, who works in Trojan’s contract electronic manufacturing (CEM) department, was announced as winner of the award by Gower College Swansea, which nominated him for the award for his superior work.

A team of Digital Technology students from Gower College Swansea has been selected to represent Wales in the final of the Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Competition.
This follows their exceptional performance at the Engineering Education Scheme Wales (EESW) finals, where they took the top prize in the 'Best College in Wales' category.
Cody Wilks, Sara Vonk, David Osbourne and Kaleb Thomas have worked closely with Tongfang Global (THTF) over several months to design and develop a prototype for ‘smart TVs’.

2016 awards recognise outstanding student achievement
Outstanding students from Gower College Swansea were honored at the 2016 Annual Awards ceremony at the Liberty Stadium, with winners representing every aspect of college life from art, sport and engineering to enterprise, theatre and hospitality.
BBC Wales Today weather presenter – and former student - Behnaz Akhgar hosted the evening where students were honored for their achievements both academic and personal.
She was joined by guest speaker, the legendary Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards, Great Britain’s first Olympic ski jumper and subject of a recent inspirational movie.
Primary Partners inspires a love of theatre
Pupils from 12 schools across Swansea will have the chance to learn about working in the theatre and performing live on stage thanks to a special partnership between Swansea Council and Gower College Swansea.
The annual Primary Partners 2016 event comes to Swansea Grand Theatre on June 16 and 17 to give hundreds of youngsters the ultimate arts work experience.
And, after a day behind the scenes and treading the boards, they will perform in front of an audience including proud family and friends in a show hosted by local radio presenter and entertainer Kevin Johns.
