Thirty of the 43 students currently following the Oxbridge Preparation Programme at Gower College Swansea have been successful in securing an interview at either Oxford or Cambridge.
The well-established programme, which is based at the Gorseinon campus, provides the best possible preparation for students aiming to progress to Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group universities.
“It is an intensive programme which includes weekly tutorials, visits to both Oxford and Cambridge universities, preparation interviews with Oxbridge alumni and local academic professionals, an aptitude test and assessment preparation for relevant subjects,” says Oxbridge lead tutor Felicity Padley. “It is also extremely effective – 43 Gower College Swansea students have been accepted to study at Oxford or Cambridge in the last six years, which is an incredible success rate.”
“For this year’s cohort, the most popular subjects are medicine within the sciences and English within the humanities. We are also really excited to see two students hoping to read Computer Science. We wish them all the best of luck!”
The students now have a nervous wait as they won’t find out whether they have been accepted to their respective universities until 10 January 2018.
Gower College Swansea is also – at the invitation of the University of Cambridge – the only FE College in Wales to run a HE+ programme.
Supported by the Welsh Government’s Seren Programme, HE+ aims to develop academic skills and inspire students to aim as high as possible when making their university choices.
