Championing careers in the creative industries

Gower College Swansea is proud to be a part of the Creative Industries Employer Board.

Formed in 2021 and made up of over 30 employers, the Board looks to nurture talent, identify opportunities for young people, provide coaching and mentoring, and celebrate achievement.

“It’s really important to remember that every sector needs people with creative skills,” says Chair Rachael Wheatley, who is the founder of Waters Creative, an agency specialising in graphic and web design, branding and marketing.

Students celebrate results success

Students celebrate results success

Students at Gower College Swansea are celebrating a fantastic set of A Level and vocational Level 3 results.

The overall A Level pass rate this year is 99%, with 1220 separate exam entries. Of these passes, 42% are at grades A*-A, 70% are at A*-B and 87% are at A*-C.

A total of 236 A* grades were awarded to our A Level learners this year. This equates to 19% of our overall grades, 3% above the Welsh National Comparator for A*.

Joint celebrations for College’s HE students

Gower College Swansea students Lauren Pritchard and Atlanta Coates have two fantastic reasons to celebrate this summer.

Not only have they both been awarded a First Class Honours Degree after completing their BA Business Management (Accounting) course, which the College offers in partnership with the University of South Wales, but they have also both been offered fantastic roles with Bevan Buckland LLP.

Honourable Mention from Cambridge!

Legolas, one of our first year international students, has received an honourable mention in this year's photography competition from the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge! The theme was Sociology of Resistance.

Legolas’ image was taken at the local beauty spot of Caswell Bay, Swansea on a day out with his homestay family. He says he is extremely pleased to have had his work nominated and recognised by such an eminent university.

Wellbeing Day 2022

Gower College Swansea recently held its annual Wellbeing Day, where staff enjoyed a range of sessions from workshops and fitness to relaxation. 

This was the first face to face Wellbeing Day since 2019, and staff enjoyed getting together and joining in with team activities. Over 400 staff got involved across all campuses.

Seven Gower College Swansea learners set to compete at the WorldSkills UK National Finals

An impressive 130 Welsh competitors have been announced as finalists for the WorldSkills UK National Finals taking place this November, seven of which are from Gower College Swansea!

The announcement follows a series of regional competitions that took place across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, hosting a string of talented young people.

Talented artists celebrated at College

Some of Gower College Swansea’s most talented learners have competed in the Principal’s Art Prize, a new initiative open to those studying creative subjects at the Gorseinon and Llwyn y Bryn campuses.

Taking Gold was Foundation Art and Design student Karen Woods with her thoughtful pastel pencil piece entitled Ethiopian Child.

Based on an actual encounter with the little girl, Karen said: “I loved her smile and the warmth of her eyes. She owned next to nothing but was happy and full of affection.”
