Gower College Swansea student, Scott Tavner, has been entered straight into the WorldSkills Lyon squad after his outstanding performance in the WorldSkills UK 2021 National Finals.
WorldSkills is a global movement of over 80 countries, which supports young people across the world via competitions-based training, assessment, and benchmarking. The WorldSkills competitions are known by many as the ‘skills Olympics’, with competitors being trained to develop their personal and employability skills, as well as technical.
Scott, studying Electronic Engineering, competed in the Industrial Electronics competition.
“I am so proud of Scott’s achievement. His dedication to his skill is simply inspirational and the attention to detail and constant willingness to improve has helped him on his journey from competence to excellence,” says Steve Williams, Curriculum Leader for Electronic Engineering at the College and WorldSkills UK Training Manager for Industrial Electronics.
The Lyon cycle of WorldSkills is due to start with around 3,500 young people registered for the 2022 national competitions. Scott will join the shortlist of exceptional candidates who will represent the UK in 2024 without having to re-enter this cycle.
