Gower College Swansea’s Human Resources team has been named Team of the Year (Public Sector) at the prestigious Wales HR Awards 2021.
“We are absolutely delighted to have won this award, which recognises our hard work and commitment to maintaining a positive and engaged workforce across the organisation,” says Director of HR, Sarah King. “Our strategy is all about caring for and connecting people, based on three key pillars of recognition, wellbeing and support.”
Over the past few years, the College has achieved a number of impressive milestones, such as gaining bronze, silver and gold corporate health standards and, during this process, the assessor noted that ‘the positive culture of the College is tangible and is a beacon of excellent practice.’
An extensive wellbeing provision has been introduced, with staff actively encouraged to participate in a range of free activities, workshops and information sessions that promote physical and mental health.
The College holds an annual health and wellbeing day, which continued over the pandemic with virtual webinars, quizzes, book clubs and exercise classes.
A Long Service awards ceremony was also introduced to acknowledge and thank staff for their loyalty towards the College.
Other recent initiatives include awareness days around menopause, LGBTQ+ issues and financial wellbeing.
In addition to their win for HR Team of the Year (Public Service), the College was also shortlisted in two other categories – Inspiring Great Leadership and Best HR Initiative.
