Theatre and Live Events Production Level 3 - Extended Diploma
Overview
The UAL (University of the Arts London) Level 3 Extended Diploma in Theatre and Production Arts is equivalent to 3 A Levels in the UCAS points system.
Here at Gower College Swansea you will be provided with a breadth of study across many disciplines to include:
- Stage management
- Lighting
- Sound
- Prop making
- Design
- Costume
- Scenic construction.
Although the emphasis is on practical and production work you will need to complete written assignments and develop your skills through evaluative logbooks and rehearsal reflections. You will learn to evaluate and comment critically on both professional practice and research as well as your own creative journey.
Your learning is assessed by projects. You will complete these termly - the projects will vary and you could be assessed through a real-life production scenario, journals, presentations, essays and performances.
Key information
- Five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language
- Or an equivalent qualification e.g. Merit at Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production
- Leaners are required to have a keen interest in production art
- Performance experience preferred.
The course is taught in the Arts Block at the Gorseinon Campus and focuses mainly on practical assessments with evidence generated through research and development log books.
Classroom assessments will, where possible, be linked to the production work conducted throughout your course of study.
As part of the Level 3 timetable you will also study the Level 3 Welsh Baccalaureate.
Students have progressed onto a variety of specialist drama colleges including Guildford School of Acting, RADA, Bristol Old Vic, Mountview and Arts Ed.
Careers include stage management, costume design, lighting/sound design or technical.
Course Fees
The course fees are £150 per year. This enable us to organise theatre trips, provide workshop opportunities and book industry professionals as guest speakers.
Theatre Visits
Throughout the course of the year, you will have opportunities to attend local productions and notable performances in London and Stratford-Upon-Avon. The trips organised are dependent on the performances available during the year.
Workshops
Workshops will be tailored to the Level 3 course and will vary depending on the focus of each term.
