Gower College Swansea is proud to announce it features on The Social Mobility List 2024, an initiative that aims to recognise schools and colleges making significant strides in advancing social mobility across the UK.
The first of its kind, The Social Mobility List, in partnership with bp, is a ground-breaking new publication from Making The Leap that will be published annually, focusing on highlighting the key contributors and initiatives that are driving social mobility in the UK.
This inclusion follows the College being recognised at the UK Social Mobility Awards in October, where we proudly received the Highly Commended and Gold Award in the School/College of the Year category. The award recognised our dedication to embedding social mobility across key areas of delivery and practice, including within our apprenticeship and resettlement programmes. Our work in this area has improved social mobility by empowering apprentices with disabilities to achieve and former prisoners with greater self-esteem and employment opportunities.
Kelly Fountain, Principal of Gower College Swansea said: “We are incredibly proud to feature in this year’s Social Mobility List. This inclusion recognises our commitment to creating opportunity and embedding social mobility across all of our areas of delivery and practice, by supporting apprentices with disabilities and individuals rebuilding their lives after prison.”
Speaking about the list, Tunde Banjoko, CEO of Making The Leap and Founder of the Social Mobility List said: “It is my belief that social mobility is the single most powerful mechanism by which we can create a fairer and more just society.
“The Social Mobility List builds on the foundation that amplifying and celebrating social mobility initiatives helps drive forward the cause, thereby serving a broader and ongoing purpose as a key reference resource for organisations and decision makers dedicated to change.”
