Curtis shares progression story with Bridge students
Former student Curtis Cana has returned to Gower College Swansea to deliver an inspiring careers talk to students on The Bridge programme.
Curtis, who studied Level 3 Health and Care Social Care at the Tycoch campus, has since progressed to university and is also employed by the local authority so was able to give the students an insight into higher education and career opportunities.

Motor Vehicle students from Gower College Swansea enjoyed a recent team building day at Newport's Supakart.
The visit, which was part funded by the College’s Reaching Wider team, allowed the learners to drive petrol powered vehicles around the multi-level indoor circuit.
“The aims of the Reaching Wider project are to increase participation in higher education and improve employment prospects," says lecturer Lucy Turtle. "This was a great opportunity for the students to experience driving go-karts and it really brought out their competitive sides!"

GCS Training student wins major award
A Gower College Swansea student has been awarded the title of Dental Practice Manager of the Year.
Kirsty White, who works at the Hickman House practice in Penarth, completed the Level 5 CMI in Management and Leadership course with GCS Training via distance learning due to her full time work commitments.
Big Bang Fair beckons for Digi Tech team
Digital Technology students did Gower College Swansea proud at the recent Worldskills National Finals at the Birmingham NEC.
The students, alongside lecturers Steve Williams and Clive Monks and Learning Support Assistant Teresa Jayathilaka, spent an intense five days preparing for, and participating, in the show.
Sara Vonk and Chloe Moore were tasked with running an Industrial Electronics Showcase at the event, which saw hundreds of people of all ages and abilities join in with fun and educational activities.

A group of students from Gower College Swansea visited the Houses of Parliament earlier this month as part of the UK Youth Parliament movement.
Scott Russell, a Level 3 Technical Theatre student from the Gorseinon campus, was joined by Sian Bolton, Jack Scott and Gwen Griffiths on the trip.
Scott, who lives in the Rhondda Valleys, has a long term interest in politics and has participated in various youth council initiatives in his local area.

Students encouraged to bring ideas to life
'Big Ideas' Role Model Benedict Room has delivered a successful business workshop to Vocational Studies students at Gower College Swansea.
“I wanted my group to meet a well-established local entrepreneur who could convey the exhilaration of running a business," says organiser Lucy Turtle. "They gained a great understanding from Ben of the attitudes needed to succeed and were also encouraged to explore their own abilities to bring ideas to life."
A career in motor vehicle beckons for Demi
Former Bridge student Demi Hendra has successfully progressed onto a full time vocational course in Motor Vehicle Maintenance at our Tycoch campus.
The Bridge Programme is aimed at young people aged 16-19 who are undecided about their future career path.
“Demi is really enjoying her course which will hopefully lead to further progression in the automotive industry," says tutor Maria Francis. “Demi is a hard working student who is always eager to learn new skills and her ambition now is to gain a place on an apprenticeship scheme.”
Festive penguins get a makeover
Staff and students at the Llwyn y Bryn campus were recently approached by the Cultural Services team at City and County of Swansea with a very special request - to redecorate and repaint the Waterfront Winterland Penguins for the children’s ice rink.

Career opportunities ahoy!
Engineering and Catering / Hospitality students from the Tycoch campus were invited by the Royal Navy to tour HMS Richmond, a ‘type 23’ frigate docked at Cardiff Bay.
“We were warmly received by the Captain and his crew and given an extensive tour of the ship,” says lecturer Mark Row. “This visit will be followed by the Royal Navy’s attending Tycoch to discuss apprenticeship pathways with groups of Engineering and Catering students.”

GCS celebrates sporting success
It’s been another very eventful and successful few weeks for Gower College Swansea Sport:
Alice Reynolds won the European Archery Tournament (IFAA) over three days in Valencia, competing against archers from all over the world including Youth Olympic medallists and eventually breaking her own Welsh record, breaking the European record and taking gold!
