Talented artists celebrated at College
Some of Gower College Swansea’s most talented learners have competed in the Principal’s Art Prize, a new initiative open to those studying creative subjects at the Gorseinon and Llwyn y Bryn campuses.
Taking Gold was Foundation Art and Design student Karen Woods with her thoughtful pastel pencil piece entitled Ethiopian Child.
Based on an actual encounter with the little girl, Karen said: “I loved her smile and the warmth of her eyes. She owned next to nothing but was happy and full of affection.”
College's HR team scoops three top awards
Gower College Swansea’s Human Resources team has won three awards at the prestigious Wales HR Awards 2022.
At a glitzy ceremony in Cardiff on 8 July, the team were awarded with the following trophies:
Best Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy
Best HR Initiative
HR Star (Sarah King)

An evening of celebration - Gower College Swansea Student Awards 2022
There were lots of reasons to celebrate at the Student Awards 2022.
For the first time since the global pandemic, the College was able to hold an in-person awards ceremony to celebrate the success and achievements of its students and staff.
And where better to hold the event than the city’s newest venue – Swansea Arena.
College put me on a path to helping save lives with data
A love of data is helping one Gower College Swansea alumni to play an integral role within the NHS, after her college supported her to pursue a dream apprenticeship despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.
Laurice Keogh (19) from Loughor, Swansea, has wanted to pursue a career in data from a young age. Today, that drive has seen her start a career as an apprentice with Digital Health and Care Wales, helping to change the way health and care services are delivered.

Staff recognised at Long Service Awards
Staff from Gower College Swansea were recently (Friday 10 June) invited to a special celebratory event at the Swansea.com stadium.
The Long Service Awards have been set up to recognise and thank those members of staff who have worked at the College for more than 20 years.
Lecturers, managers and business support staff from across all areas of the organisation received personalised gifts before enjoying an afternoon tea.

It was a day of celebration on 18 May as our second year international students gathered in Sketty Hall Business School.
Students from all over the world, from countries such as China, Italy, Cambodia and Korea gathered for a lunch and graduation ceremony.

Chris Brindley MBE delivers leadership and management masterclass at Gower College Swansea
Sketty Hall Business School will, this week (Wednesday 25 May), welcome Chris Brindley MBE to deliver a leadership and management masterclass.
Learners from HND and BA Business Management as well as those studying professional management courses will be attending the masterclass by the former managing director of Metro Bank.

Ben Lewis, an electronics apprentice at Gower College Swansea, is set to represent Team UK at the WorldSkills 2022 competition in China.

Five A Level English students from Gower College Swansea have been offered the experience of a lifetime – to intern at the upcoming Hay Festival.
Ra-ees Richards, Lowri Thomas, Jordana Yip, Seren Jefferies and Kesia Holmes have all been selected to take part in the Beacons Project during the 2022 event.
Covid update: changes to measures from Monday 9 May
In line with today's announcement from Welsh Government regarding changes to covid restrictions for educational settings, the College will now start to move towards a position where, whilst there is no requirement for most restrictions, they will still be encouraged.
At the current time, the numbers of positive covid cases are still relatively high, and therefore it will now be up to individuals to make their own judgement in terms of whether they will continue to follow the measures.
