Gower College Swansea named as one of the 49 recipients of a ‘Trees of Hope’ Sycamore Gap sapling

The National Trust has announced Gower College Swansea as one of the recipients of the 49 ‘Trees of Hope’ Sycamore Gap saplings being gifted to individuals, groups, and organisations across the UK. 

The big reveal during National Tree Week follows the charity’s invitation on the anniversary of the felling of the much-loved tree at the end of September for applications for one of the saplings grown from its seed.

Special charity concert raises awareness and funds for MND

A special evening of music and song took place recently at Gower College Swansea, as a charity concert was held in support of the fight against Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

The event, which was hosted at the Tycoch Campus, brought together The Gwalia Singers male voice choir and talented student performers Abigail Rankin, Isobel McNeill and Carys Morgan.

The Gwalia Singers, led by Musical Director Matthew Ioan Sims MA and accompanied by Rhian Liles BMus (Hons) treated the audience to a selection of beautiful songs including There Is A Land, You Raise Me Up and O Gymru.

College graduates of 2024 celebrate their achievements

Over 150 higher education students from Gower College Swansea have celebrated their success at a special graduation ceremony at Swansea Arena.

They were there to celebrate their achievements in a wide range of higher-level courses including business and accounting, applied computing, teaching, engineering, leadership and management, health and social care, and childcare.

Incredible College team set to attend the ‘Oscars' of the teaching profession

An inspirational teaching team from Gower College Swansea will head to London to attend the ‘Oscars’ of the teaching profession. Taking place on 30 November, the annual Pearson National Teaching Awards UK ceremony will honour and celebrate the outstanding achievements of educators from across the UK. 

At the ceremony, the College’s Landscaping and Eco-Construction team will be in the running for a Gold Award, having already been recognised amongst thousands of nominees earlier this year when they received a Silver Award for FE Team of the Year.

Gower College Swansea and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol appoint Further Education Ambassadors

Gower College Swansea has announced 20 new Further Education Ambassadors for the 2024-25 academic year and three of them are in collaboration with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.

The ambassadors will raise awareness amongst their fellow learners at the College of the benefits of bilingual education, and to encourage them to continue to use their Welsh language skills at the College in preparation for the workplace in the future.

Learners shine at the Adult Learning Partnership Swansea celebration event.

This week, an exhibition of adult learners’ work was displayed to celebrate the Adult Learning Partnership Swansea (ALPS). 
The celebration took place on 7 November alongside a UNESCO planning event. The latter welcomed both formal and informal learning groups to help plan a celebration of Swansea's tenth anniversary of the UNESCO Learning City Award. 


Visitors enjoyed speaking to students and learning about the fantastic artwork on display at the Brangwyn Hall’s George Hall, which was submitted by adult learners from across the city.

Staff celebrated at special Long Service Awards

Around 70 long-serving staff at Gower College Swansea have been celebrated at a special event at Swansea.com Stadium. 

The Long Service Awards were set up to recognise and thank those members of staff who have dedicated at least 20 years to Gower College Swansea.  

Lecturers, managers and business support staff from across all areas of the organisation received personalised gifts before enjoying an afternoon tea.

Entertainment was provided by local harpist Bethan Sian and talented singer Abi Rankin, who is a College student.

Top universities talk for young learners

Hundreds of young learners were recently invited to attend the launch of the Swansea Seren Hub for 2024/25, where they were able to find out more about the skills needed to apply to the UK’s top universities.

The event, led by Gower College Swansea and Swansea University and held at the Great Hall on the latter’s Bay Campus, was attended by almost 300 students from the College and local sixth form schools, many of whom were joined by their parents and guardians.
