Llwyn y Bryn student’s work selected for London show

A student from Gower College Swansea has been selected by UAL Awarding Body to exhibit her work at Origins Creatives 2024.

Level 3 Photography student Evangeline Roberts, who studies at the Llwyn y Bryn Campus, has been selected to exhibit her work at Origins Creatives, taking place at the Mall Galleries, London, in July.

Evangeline’s submission, titled Say It With Flowers, caught the attention of UAL Awarding Body’s curator, Charlie Levine, amongst over 500 submissions.

Staff Wellbeing Day 2024

At the end of another very busy academic year, Gower College Swansea held its annual summer Staff Wellbeing Day on 4 July.

Teaching and support staff were able to relax and take part in a wide variety of activities this year including golf, shamanic healing, gardening, cold water therapy, yoga and printmaking.

They were also able to gain free advice on a range of issues such as legal matters, HRT, general health and fitness, and the College’s Cycle to Work scheme.

Lively hustings event sparks debate

Around 50 A Level students at Gower College Swansea recently attended a special hustings event at the Gorseinon campus which allowed them the opportunity to ask questions of their local constituency candidates.

Staff party marks end of successful academic year

Staff at Gower College Swansea were invited to a special celebration event at Sketty Hall Business School on 28 June.

After another incredibly busy year, this was a chance for teaching and support staff from across all campuses to relax for a few hours and enjoy each other’s company.

Entertainment was provided by the Swansea Ukelele Band and singer Michael Roberts, who got everyone up dancing, and magician Dorian who baffled partygoers with a variety of tricks.

And we’re off to Kenya!

Today we finally set out on our trip to Kenya after what has been a particularly challenging week in the country. We are so glad that the protests have reduced and, in some parts of the country, stopped altogether.

From a College point of view we have spent the past 48 hours working closely with our partners and hosts, African Adventures, to rigorously test their processes and procedures in light of the recent protests, although the school we are visiting is a long way away from any of the major cities.

Gower College Swansea Annual Student Awards 2024

Students and staff from Gower College Swansea have celebrated yet another year of academic and vocational excellence.

Local legend Kev Johns MBE returned to the stage at Swansea.com Stadium to host the evening, where learners from a range of full and part time courses, apprenticeships, higher education pathways, access courses and employability support programmes picked up awards.

Guest speaker for the evening was world record holder and much loved media personality Colin Jackson CBE, who inspired the audience with his story of persistence and success.

Apprenticeship opportunities beckon for students

Two Engineering Technology students at Gower College Swansea’s Tycoch Campus have been making waves in the engineering industry, thanks to the help of a former student, David McRae.

David, who completed his Structural Engineering degree at Swansea University and went on to become a Principal Engineer at CB3 Consult, recently reached out to his former tutor, Coral Planas, in search of apprentices to join the Institute of Civil Engineering apprenticeship scheme.

Apprentice awarded Runner Up in 2024 CFA Flooring Apprentice of the Year competition

Gower College Swansea is delighted to share that one of its Level 2 Floor Covering apprentices, Dale Dee-Ray, was recently awarded the runner up award at the prestigious 2024 CFA Flooring Apprentice of the Year competition.

Announced as Highly Commended, Dale displayed his passion for the flooring industry and a drive for excellence, whilst demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his apprenticeship journey.
