Gower College Swansea was delighted to host a series of events last week at its Tycoch Campus in the run up to Radio 1’s Academy at the Swansea Grand Theatre in May.
On Friday 20 April students had the opportunity to take part in a Q&A workshop with BBC Radio 1’s DJ Matt Edmondson where they got the opportunity to explore how a live broadcast is put together and the tricks of the trade that go with it.
Then on Saturday 21 April, members of the public – along with College students – were invited to attend the Radio 1 Life Hacks Live event led by DJ Katie Thistleton which explored coping with pressure and building confidence. Guests included Ospreys star and Wales Under-21 International Keelen Giles plus fashion vlogger Emma Tamsin. Also giving his take on life was musician Tom Grennan who also performed an acoustic set.
Also on Saturday, Radio 1 was broadcast live from the College between 1 and 4pm headed up by DJ Matt Edmondson and co-host Example.
Speaking about the events, Nick Brazil, Deputy Principal at Gower College Swansea said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students as well as members of the public to take part in these academy events which help to understand and explore the creative arts industries.
“It was really exciting for us as a College to host these events and we will certainly be encouraging our students to participate in the Radio 1 Academy at the end of May.”
