Overview

This course will encourage you to explore and experiment with a range of ceramic construction techniques, surface decoration and kiln firing.

If you are interested in gaining a new skill, experimenting with ceramic materials, or building on previous knowledge this course will offer you the opportunity to explore the traditional craft of pottery as well as contemporary ceramics.

The emphasis on this course is based on traditional ceramic techniques - you will learn the techniques of hand building and slip casting.

The course also explores traditional and contemporary decorating, glazing and firing processes.

Demonstrations and individual tutorials will be given throughout the course encouraging you to build on your skills and develop your own approach towards the craft of pottery.

Key information

No previous experience necessary, just an interest in the subject area. Learners would benefit from attending each term to build skills in preparation for the term two and term three courses, although this is not a barrier to attending each term as a standalone course.

This course is delivered in the art and design studios at the Llwyn y Bryn campus. During the course learners will complete a booklet of outcomes. This is assessed in order to certificate for the qualification. You will be based in our purpose built ceramics studio fully equipped to support your learning experience.

Progression from any part time course could offer a pathway to full time courses in art and design. For adult learners considering a creative career, the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design course could provide a progression route for this.
