College in the running for Responsible Business Award

Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted for a Wales Responsible Business Award by Business in the Community (BITC) Cymru.

The College is in the running for the Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Wellbeing at Work Award in recognition of its delivery of a ‘menopause in the workplace’ seminar that took place at the Tycoch Campus in November 2018.

College in the running for Paperless award

Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted in the 2019 Public Sector Paperless Awards.

The Information Learning Technology team, which supports the use of digital technologies and innovations throughout the College, has been named as a finalist in the Best Small Scale Digital Application / Project category for their development of e-signatures for student funding and bus pass agreements.

Gower College Swansea scoop three HR Awards

Gower College Swansea scooped three awards in the Wales HR Awards 2018 in a glittering black-tie ceremony in Cardiff’s Exchange Hotel on Friday 22 March.

The awards ceremony – which recognises and celebrates the achievements of HR professionals and employers across Wales – is the flagship event of the Wales HR Network, a leading professional thought sharing and networking group created and run by Cardiff-based commercial law firm Darwin Gray and Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment specialist.

Shortlisted Sally is a science career role model at Tata Steel

Sally Hughes is on course for a rewarding career with Tata Steel in Port Talbot and hopes to inspire other young women to follow a science career pathway.

The only female in a group of technical apprentices recruited by the company in Port Talbot in September, 2016, she says it has not been easy to be successful within a male dominated environment.

However, the 19-year-old from Port Talbot is determined to reach her full potential by embracing all opportunities available to her.

Students scoop Swansea Bay Radio awards

Two students from Gower College Swansea have achieved success at the Swansea Bay Radio Young Achievers Awards 2018.

Patrick Langdon-Dark won the Young Sports Star of the Year title, which was sponsored by Celtic Minor Golf Club.

Surfer Patrick was until very recently a student at the College’s Gorseinon Campus studying Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science.

Local leader and college shortlisted for Wales’ national leadership awards

Principal and Chief Executive Mark Jones from Gower College Swansea has been named a finalist in this year’s Leading Wales Awards.

The 2018 Leading Wales Awards – in association with the Institute of Leadership and Management – have announced this year’s shortlist and are holding their judging interviews on Thursday 12 July.

Mark has been nominated in the Leadership in the Public Sector category for his role as Principal and Chief Executive at Gower College Swansea – one of Wales’ largest further education colleges – and is one of only four finalists in the category.

Gower College Swansea in running for accountancy awards

Gower College Swansea has been shortlisted as Accountancy College of the Year (Public Sector) at the forthcoming PQ Magazine awards – a title it scooped in 2016.

In fact, this is the third consecutive year that the College – currently the only FE organisation in the UK to be awarded Platinum Partner status by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants – has been honoured at these awards.
