Gower College Swansea scooped three awards in the Wales HR Awards 2018 in a glittering black-tie ceremony in Cardiff’s Exchange Hotel on Friday 22 March.
The awards ceremony – which recognises and celebrates the achievements of HR professionals and employers across Wales – is the flagship event of the Wales HR Network, a leading professional thought sharing and networking group created and run by Cardiff-based commercial law firm Darwin Gray and Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment specialist.
Gower College Swansea was a finalist in seven categories including Employer and Team of the Year. The team won first place in the Best Use of the Welsh Language category and Director of Human Resources, Sarah King, won the coveted HR Star Award and HR Director of the Year for the second year running.
Sarah said: “I am so proud of the HR team and am absolutely honoured to have won three awards. Gower College Swansea has a strong focus on the wellbeing of staff as demonstrated by our recent achievement of the Gold Corporate Health Standard award, and it has been such a pleasure to develop and implement strategies to support this. I look forward to continue to prioritise these issues and to introduce new initiatives over the next year.”
Commenting on Sarah and the HR Team’s successes, Principal of Gower College Swansea Mark Jones said: “I am delighted that the College was shortlisted for seven awards and won three. As an organisation, an essential part of our success is our staff and the HR department is key in accomplishing this.
“I am particularly delighted for our HR Director Sarah King who, in the relatively short time that she has been with us, has made a huge impact not only on her team, but right across the College and, as such, is thoroughly deserving of this recognition for the second year in a row. I would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved for all of the work that has led to this acknowledgement.”
