Vocational media students at our Gorseinon Campus have had an amazing opportunity to meet with industry insiders.
Members of BBC Cymru Wales’ Creative Production Scheme team attended an informal networking event with our learners just before the Christmas break.
The event had a speed dating style format where the students met with programme-makers from BBC Cymru Wales and the independent sector, and from across a wide variety of genres including news, sport, radio, digital and marketing, education and archives.
The main purpose of the event was for the Creative Production Scheme team to gain more of an understanding about young people’s media consumption and viewing/listening habits, hear their ideas for innovative new programmes, and to get feedback on their current services.
There was also an opportunity for the young people to find out more about the apprenticeship schemes which are offered by BBC Cymru Wales.
“It was great to be able to facilitate a meeting between our vocational media students and industry professionals who could talk to them about potential career pathways,” says Curriculum Leader Jarrod Waldie. “The students really enjoyed the event and I’m hopeful we can arrange for more of these kinds of workshops, which are so inspiring and encouraging for them when coming to think of future studying and employment options.”
