Gower College Swansea student William Evans is showing a real practical flair for entrepreneurship despite being just 16 years of age.
Two years ago Will, who is studying a BTEC Business course at the Gorseinon campus, started selling eggs from his family’s smallholding in the Gower. As the community was under lockdown at the time, Will took the initiative and offered a home delivery service which proved very popular with his customers who were looking to shop locally.
Although he still sells eggs from an honesty box in Three Crosses, Will’s business horizons have now broadened with the development of a petting farm with alpacas, guinea pigs, goats and rabbits.
With the help and support of his family, Will’s Petting Farm has become a real hit with the local community. It is especially popular with local playgroups who bring the children along to meet and pet the animals in a safe environment.
Will’s business talents have already attracted media attention, with him featuring on a recent episode of ITV’s Coast and Country *
At an Enterprise Hub workshop held at Sketty Hall Business School in early November, Will’s talent was also spotted by representatives from Big Ideas Wales who showed a keen interest in his plans for the future.
“We would be extremely keen to work with Will as a Young Ambassador for Big Ideas Wales so that he can showcase his talents to motivate and inspire other young people in Wales,” says adviser Miranda Thomas. “Will is a perfect example that proves that starting up a business is possible no matter what your age - if you are passionate about your business idea then you can achieve your goals.”
“Will has that winning combination of great business ideas and the confidence to just go for it,” agrees the College’s Enterprise Champion, Claire Reid. “To have the drive and vision to start a business at just 14, especially while responding to the needs of his local community in the way he did, is really impressive and we are looking forward to supporting Will as he develops his ideas further.”
