Two A Level English students from Gower College Swansea have been selected to attend the Beacons Project residential writing course at the Hay Festival 2018.
Emma Rowley and Sophie Apps are among just 20 young people to win places on the prestigious course, which offers Welsh students the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills and explore careers in writing and journalism by working with professional writers, broadcasters and journalists.
During a four-day residency, the young writers - supported by a mentor - will participate in workshops and discussions, writing blogs and reviews and immersing themselves in all that the Hay Festival has to offer.
"To secure places on this highly sought-after programme, Emma and Sophie submitted their short stories to a panel of judges together with a letter of recommendation," says lecturer Shona Sutherland. "We are all absolutely delighted for them and I'm sure this will be an experience they will never forget."
