Level 2 Art and Design students from Llwyn y Bryn have created a poignant piece of art for Holocaust Memorial Day.
“We wanted to incorporate words of hate into the piece with the express intention of transforming them into something positive,” says lecturer Marilyn Jones. “We wrote the words down on paper and then scrunched them up, using them to make up the design of the HMD logo. It was a very powerful act for the students, with a focus on bringing hope to the future.”
The students also wrote postcards to a child escapee from Germany - Renie Inow, now aged 89 - who continued to write letters to her family throughout the Holocaust and who now lives in Britain. Renie will reply to them all via the ‘Postcard Project’ which formed part of the display at the UK Commemorative Ceremony for HMD on 25 January.
