Catering students Collette Gorvett and Paige Jones represented Gower College Swansea at the SkillsCompetition Wales final at Cardiff and Vale College yesterday.
They had to a) prepare a variety of table layups b) prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and cocktails within a time frame and c) cook and present Steak Diane in the restaurant under the watchful eye of the judges.
Up against 15 other competitors, Collette secured a fantastic Silver medal in Food Service with Paige a very close runner (4th place). This is a great achievement as both are Level 2 students who competed at a Level 3 competition.
Hannah Hoyles, also a VRQ L2 student, took part in the Advanced Cookery Competition where she prepared and cooked sea bass, a chicken dish and a dessert within a time frame of three hours under the gaze of Welsh and Worldskills judges.
Competing against nine other students, Hannah did not win a medal on this occasion - however she received very high praise from the judging panel and the lead judge asked Hannah specifically to continue with her competition career as they were so very impressed with her skills.
All three have entered the UK Skills regional finals to be held in June.
Well done all!
