Gower College Swansea’s Gorseinon campus was full to the brim last week when it celebrated Welsh Language Music Day – a national day established to celebrate modern Welsh language music.
Menter Iaith Abertawe visited the college to DJ a Welsh language playlist from bands such as Candelas, Sŵnami, Bryn Fôn and Llareggub Brass Band and raise awareness amongst students of the variety of Welsh music.
A competition was launched to win two tickets to the Green Man Festival, Crickhowell – all students needed to do was send a Facebook or Twitter message to @Cymraeg noting their favourite Welsh song lyric.
“It was fantastic to have a contemporary day like this to celebrate Welsh language music,” says Bilingual Champion Anna Davies. “It gave our students the opportunity to listen and be introduced to music that they may not have discovered before. It was a successful day and it was a pleasure to see Welsh speaking and non-Welsh speaking students enjoy and be moved by Welsh language music.”
