Creative Media students from Gower College Swansea have spent a day with industry professionals, finding out what it’s really like to work in the world of film and visual effects.
The students were attending a special Film and Media Careers Day at the University of Wales Trinity St David.
Following an introduction from Dr Paul Hazel, the head of the university’s Digital Media School, the students met the creative team behind the BAFTA winning Double Negative, who have worked on films such as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Transcendence, Godzilla and Interstellar.
Other highlights of the day included talks from various UoWTSD alumni, who shared their experiences of graduating and working in the film and media industry, and a presentation from Education Liaison Officer Amanda Roberts who gave an overview of working with the Da Vinci’s Demons production team as well as careers opportunities for students.
“This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to get a taste of the film and media courses at Trinity Saint David as well as an amazing insight into the industry from people who are actually working within it,” says the college’s Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle. “They really enjoyed the talks from Paul and Amanda and took part in a range of practical sessions on aspects of digital media such as 3D animation, green screen filming and editing.”
