A group of students from Gower College Swansea are set to benefit from an innovative e-mentoring project, set up by The Mullany Fund, specifically for young people aspiring to careers in healthcare.
“We are an educational charity that works to address the lack of social mobility within the healthcare professions,” says Mandy Westcott, Mullany E-mentoring Project Manager. “Our objective is to inspire and support young people into careers in medicine and other related healthcare professions,”
As a result, 27 students from the Gorseinon and Tycoch campuses will take part in a 10 week project that will link them to mentors, who are practicing healthcare professionals or medical students, via a dedicated website.
“The mentors will give advice to students on career options and on how to apply for healthcare courses, while sharing some of their experiences of working in a healthcare environment,” adds lecturer Stewart McConnell. “The students have already met with Mandy and are now eager to meet their mentors and begin the project.”
