Three Hospitality and Catering students from Gower College Swansea spent time in the United States over the summer.
Steven Williams, Amy Cray and Jake Reed, who are enrolled on the Level 3 Advanced Patisserie and Larder Diploma at the Tycoch campus, spent nine weeks working as chefs at Camp America sites in Pennsylvania and upstate New York.
“This was a fantastic experience for the students,” says lecturer Stephen Williams. “Cooking for children and young people aged 7-17 was very demanding and their days were long. But all three enjoyed the experience and it’s a fantastic achievement to add to their CVs. We always encourage our students to apply for the Camp America programme – last year Shane Davies worked at Indian Head Camp for Children in Pennsylvania and has now gone on to study Gastronomy at university.”
After camp had finished, Steven, Amy and Jake were afforded time to travel around New York state, ending up with a fun packed three days’ sightseeing in New York City.
