Fine Art A Level

Explore a range of art, media, processes and techniques. Traditional methods are studied as well as new media. The use of drawing for different purposes is explored, using different methods.  

Work in one or more areas of fine art such as drawing and painting, mixed media (collage), printmaking and photography, installation/site specific or video. Use of relevant sources relating to a range of historical and contemporary art, including European and non-European examples. 

Selected students are entered to a range of national art competitions for experience of exhibiting their work. 

Course Objectives: 

• Develop ideas from research into art of the past and present 
• Demonstrate research understanding through work produced and written notes 
• Explore a wide range of materials, techniques and processes 
• Refine ideas and show improvement during the development process 
• Record ideas, planning and intentions 
• Critically reflect on the work and the progress 
• Present a cohesive body of work showcasing skills and connections to research and development.

Course Outcomes: 

• Present a sketchbook of research and development work that includes experimentation into media, techniques and processes 
• Research appropriate artists and art movements 
• Show how the work of other artists influenced final pieces 
• Show evidence of learning through improvements in work produced and execute well planned outcomes.
