As a new academic year is set to begin, Gower College Swansea held a very special welcome event for Welsh speaking students at the Gorseinon Campus.
Diwrnod Croeso 2025 saw staff and learners enjoy a range of activities designed to get everyone using their Welsh as they get to know one another.
Special guests included S4C presenter and BBC Radio Cymru DJ Mirain Iwerydd who talked about her career to date and gave advice on how to create engaging reels for social media.
Mirain was joined by Sketchy Welsh who encouraged the students to create and draw Welsh characters.
Also in attendance was Adwaith vocalist / guitarist, and College alumni, Hollie Singer who performed a special acoustic set and shared her passion for the Welsh language.
In between spots of crazy golf and table tennis, there were plenty of opportunities for networking, relaxing and eating delicious cakes and pizzas!
“We had a fantastic time and it was so great to see everyone getting to know each other, using their Welsh and having fun together,” says the College’s Bilingualism Manager, Helen Humphreys. “We were delighted to welcome Mirain, Josh (Sketchy Welsh) and Hollie to the Gorseinon Campus, it was really inspirational for our learners to hear how using their Welsh language skills is a great asset and how they will continue to use it whilst studying at the college.”
The College holds a variety of Welsh language and bilingual events throughout the year such as Saint Dwynwen’s Day, Welsh Week and Welsh Language Music Day. It also celebrates other events such as International Women’s Day and Rainbow Week through the medium of Welsh.
