Staff promote Welsh language learning at Gwyl Tawe 2024

Menter Iaith Abertawe’s festival, Gŵyl Tawe, returned for its second year to the National Waterfront Museum. The festival once again saw performances by a whole host of alternative, contemporary artists who use the Welsh language in varied and exciting ways.

The free festival featured performances from the best of the Welsh language music scene including Parisa Fouladi and Rogue Jones on the main stage sponsored by Cymru Greadigol and bands such as Ci Gofod, Bitw and Alffa on the Gower College Swansea Stage.

Students and pupils experience insightful Microsoft event

Over 160 learners from both Gower College Swansea and local secondary schools including Cwmtawe, Dylan Thomas, Penyrheol and Birchgrove recently took part (Wednesday 22 May) in an insightful event run by the College in partnership with Microsoft.

Representatives from Microsoft and their partner network shared with learners their career journeys in areas such as data, AI and cyber security, and hosted discussions and Q&As around 'Women in Tech' and 'How to start a career at Microsoft'.

College’s Green Hwb officially launched

Staff and students at Gower College Swansea welcomed a very special guest to the official launch of their Green Hwb.

Iolo Williams, a renowned advocate for environmental conservation and a familiar face from his appearances on TV programmes such as Springwatch, The Last Wilderness of Wales, Iolo's Borderlands and Natur Gudd Cymru, was given a tour of the facilities and spent time chatting to students.

Gower College Swansea is delighted to announce that it has achieved Carers Federation Quality Standard in Carer Support (QSCS) re-accreditation, demonstrating its continued good practice and commitment to learners who are also young adult carers.

Director of HR presents at national menopause conference

Gower College Swansea's Director of Human Resources, Sarah King, recently spoke at an annual Menopause in the Workplace conference in Cardiff, which was led by Policy Insight Wales.

The conference was set up for organisations to learn how to better support, value and retain staff members who are experiencing symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

In light of new guidance issued by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), it is now imperative that employers make reasonable adjustments for employees going through menopause.
