We were delighted to welcome students from Zhuzhou No. 2 Middle School to Gower College Swansea this February for a Winter School programme, where they shadowed A-Level classes and took part in a range of activities across Swansea and the surrounding areas.
The students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to sit in on A-Level lessons and experience our learning style, noting the valuable contrast with their home-schooling system.
They particularly enjoyed their visit to Rhossili, where they even had the chance to speak with the coastguard, who kindly invited them into the station to enjoy the perfect view of Worm’s Head.
During their time at Sketty Hall, the Welsh Team delivered a cultural session to mark St Dwynwen’s Day, introducing local phrases and guiding students in creating cards to gift to loved ones.
Students also benefited from a specialised Critical Thinking session led by our Oxbridge Coordinators, designed to broaden their English vocabulary and develop their spoken communication skills.
A visit to Swansea University offered further insight into UK higher education, including a tour of the School of Law, a mock courtroom activity, FHMLS masterclasses, pharmaceutical laboratory tasks such as capsule filling and blood grouping, and bioscience sessions including blood film microscopy.
To conclude their Winter School experience, one confident Zhuzhou student delivered an impressive presentation in English, reflecting on the warm Welsh welcome they received and the valuable learning opportunities at Gower College Swansea, encouraging everyone to remain open to learning from people around the world.
