AS and A Level Textiles students from Gower College Swansea have enjoyed a weaving workshop with Llio James, a Welsh practitioner with a strong interest in developing the relationship between hand weaving and the traditional woollen industry within Wales.
Exploring the feeling of belonging to ‘country and culture,’ colour plays an important role in her design process as she examines proportion, scale and geometric shapes when hand weaving bespoke cloth.
The two day workshop enabled students to explore hand felting and hand weaving using natural wool, thread and found objects and to consider texture, colour and shapes.
The students made a range of textile pieces that can support and form new ideas for future projects. They also had an invaluable opportunity to experience and visually engage with the work of a professional working in today’s textiles industry.
