Huge congratulations to former Gower College Swansea student Ayoob Azhar who has been awarded a scholarship to study engineering at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
After arriving in the UK from Oman with his family in 2021, Ayoob enrolled at the College and completed the BTEC L3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Motorsport) at the Gorseinon campus.
From day one, and despite the challenges of settling in a new country, Ayoob stood out as an exceptional student.
Balancing his studies alongside his religious commitment and other commitments over the summer period, he demonstrated a focus and determination that saw him credited with Distinctions in every unit he completed. His assignment work was of such a high standard that it was often used as a ‘benchmark’ when it went before academic boards for marking.
Such was the high esteem in which Ayoob was held by his peers and lecturers, that he was chosen as the College’s overall Engineering Student of the Year at the 2024 Annual Student Awards, which was held at the Liberty Stadium.
“Ayoob really stood out for his resilience, his commendable work ethic and his academic achievements,” says lecturer Lee Hayward. “No matter what the subject, he immersed himself in the course content with a fantastic attitude to self-directed study. We always knew Ayoob was destined for higher education, and we wish him all the best for his HND/BEng Electrical/Electronic Engineering.”
