Four students from Gower College Swansea have been successful in Aberystwyth University’s Entrance Scholarship competition.
This year, the University awarded 68 Scholarships and a number of Merit Awards to students applying to study at Aberystwyth in September 2018.
Enrique Thisby received an Institute Scholarship, Emma Burton received an Evan Morgan Scholarship, Darson Beeston received a Merit Award and an unconditional offer was awarded to Jessica Lewis on the basis of their strong performance in the exams.
Aberystwyth University runs a scholarship competition every January, with awards worth £1,000 to £2,000 per year to help students with their living costs. The Entrance Scholarships are part of a wider package of scholarships and bursaries offered by the University. Kylie Evans, Academic Awards Officer at Aberystwyth University, said:
“We would like to congratulate the students who have been successful in this year’s exams and we look forward to welcoming them to Aberystwyth in September. The entrance exams recognise academic ability but we also have a wide range of other awards to help students with their living costs. In some cases, students can receive in excess of £15,000 over the course of their studies.”
Other awards available include:
- Academic Excellence Studentships
- Departmental Scholarships
- Sports Scholarships
- Music Scholarships
- Means-tested Aberystwyth Bursary
- Welsh Medium Study Scholarships
- Bursaries for Care Leavers and Young Carers
Cadi Dafydd from Llan Ffestiniog was awarded a Merit Award in 2017. She said: “Myself and my family were so pleased to learn that I had won a Merit Award, and also the Scholarship from the Coleg Cymraeg. The money will be a great help to me with living costs and buying educational materials like books. It was so easy to apply and the awards are well worth having because I’m in a better financial position than I would have been at another university.”
