Gower College Swansea’s Director of Human Resources, Sarah King, was awarded HR Director of the Year at the Wales HR Awards 2018 in a glittering ceremony in Cardiff’s Exchange Hotel on Friday.
The awards ceremony – which recognises and celebrates the achievements of HR professionals and employers across Wales – is the flagship event of the Wales HR Network, a leading professional thought sharing and networking group created and run by Cardiff-based commercial law firm Darwin Gray and Acorn, Wales’ leading recruitment specialist.
Gower College Swansea was a finalist in three categories – including Employer of the Year – for its organisational commitment and dedication following the fire at its Tycoch Campus in October 2016.
Winning HR Director of the Year – one of only five finalists competing for the accolade – Sarah said: “I am absolutely over the moon and honoured to have won this award. I am really fortunate to work at such an amazing place, there’s a real commitment at Gower College Swansea to recognise staff and to invest in their wellbeing. I look forward to continuing to develop a strategy which focuses on these key aspects of HR and to introduce new initiatives over the next twelve months.”
Commenting on Sarah’s success, Principal of Gower College Swansea Mark Jones said: “I am delighted with this award both for Sarah herself and for the College. In the relatively short time that Sarah has been with us she has already made a huge impact across the College with both her positive and proactive approach, as well as her strong focus on staff wellbeing. This award is a well-deserved recognition of that effort and commitment.”
