Gower College Swansea has hosted the official launch of an exciting Esports tournament.
The Rugby 25 tournament, which is organised by Esports Wales in partnership with the WRU, will encourage learners from schools and colleges to compete in fast-paced, strategic rugby match ups.
The tournament highlights the growing partnership between the WRU and Esports Wales, offering students a chance to develop their skills, gain recognition and compete at a high level in the expanding world of Esports.
Qualifiers will take place on 8, 15 and 22 October, with a Grand Finale set for 5 November. Winners will have the chance to go head-to-head with Welsh rugby legends and special guests and the events will be streamed live on the WRU Twitch feed.
“The College offers a number of courses in Esports, from Level 2 qualifications to Foundation Degree,” says Learning Area Manager, Darren Fountain. “So we were delighted to hold the launch event at Gower College Swansea, which reinforces our commitment to supporting and promoting Esports in the area. This will be a fantastic opportunity for rugby enthusiasts and competitive gaming fans alike and we are really looking forward to the virtual kick-off!”
The College started delivering Esports courses in 2020. Since then, the department has worked tirelessly to showcase the diverse career pathways available to students. Meanwhile, the GCS Owls team has achieved international recognition, winning the British Esports Championship, US Cardinal Open tournament and the BETT Esports Championship—highly respected accolades that highlight excellence in competitive gaming, coaching, and Esports education.
