Nine Enterprise students from Gower College Swansea have successfully applied for the Welsh Government’s intensive three-day ‘Bootcamp to Business’ Challenge, which takes place in November.
This follows a recent audition event at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David where the students were coached and mentored by the college’s Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle.
“With the support from our wonderful Big Ideas role models Adam Curtis and Ben Room, I was able to assist the students through the application process,” says Lucy. “This was a fantastic opportunity for them to expand their knowledge and develop the essential skills needed to be ‘business ready’.”
The students are now busy preparing for the Bootcamp Challenge, which will provide further opportunities to grow their connections and meet established entrepreneurs from all walks of life.
“Reaching the Bootcamp stage will allow the students to access the business essentials to set up, manage and grow their business - from marketing and finance to business planning and employing people,” adds Lucy. “They will be able to tap into support and entrepreneurial coaching from a business community committed to helping enterprising young people succeed. It’s a very exciting time!”
The students - and their areas of interest - are: David Goldsmith (music management), Ryan Evans, Luke Williams and Alex Williams (film websites), Masuma Begum (Henna designs) and Scott McLean, Rhian Kivi, Lauren Richards and Samuel Hill (community events.)
“I would like to start a music management company,” says David (pictured). “I also believe the market is lacking a social media site for entertainers and professionals to communicate and build networks. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of the audition and I have already received direct feedback from entrepreneurs on my business plan. The Enterprise team at Gower College Swansea will now help me access the business support that I need in future.”
The ‘Bootcamp to Business’ Challenge will be held at Gregynog Hall on 13 – 15 November.
