Gower College Swansea is proud to be a part of the Creative Industries Employer Board.
Formed in 2021 and made up of over 30 employers, the Board looks to nurture talent, identify opportunities for young people, provide coaching and mentoring, and celebrate achievement.
“It’s really important to remember that every sector needs people with creative skills,” says Chair Rachael Wheatley, who is the founder of Waters Creative, an agency specialising in graphic and web design, branding and marketing.
“The creative industries covers a huge range of sectors such as music and performing arts, film and TV, gaming, publishing and PR, and those industries really need young people not just with artistic talent but with skills in science, engineering, maths, business, data analysis and administration too.”
“The Creative Industries Employer Board seeks to actively combine industry experience with a forward thinking academic curriculum which can really help to shape the creative talent of the future.”
The Board is comprised of employers from across the South Wales region including Mission Gallery, Gower Digital, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Crunch Simply and many more.
“By working together we can tell our stories, share our expertise and hopefully instil confidence in our learners. There are some fantastic career pathways to be explored, not just in Wales but beyond too, and we are dedicated to widening access to these sectors for our young people.” adds Learning Area Manager Jenny Hill.
“There can often be misconceptions about careers in the arts but the facts are that is a very rich and rewarding industry to go into, with real opportunities for long term, sustainable careers and really good earning potential.”
