Caroline’s return to education has been thoroughly enjoyable

We recently caught up with current Education Learning and Development Foundation Degree student, Caroline, who has recently completed her second year of the course.

Having spent all working life in an educational setting, she gained her higher-level Teaching Assistant’s status in 2007 and has been in her current job for 15 years.

“I decided it was time to return to college to update my qualifications and go to the next level,” says Caroline. “When I attended the college open evening in September 2019, I was planning on signing up for a different course. After talking to the Further Education staff, I decided to choose the Foundation Degree in Education Learning and Development.”

Caroline has thoroughly enjoyed the course, including the improvement of her academic writing and the insight it's given her into education.

“It has helped me to look at my own practices and how I can help and support the children in my school on a day-to-day basis,” added Caroline. “I have enjoyed studying and found the assignments interesting to research. My academic writing has developed over the last two years. I feel very proud of what I have achieved and am looking forward to my third year.”

Caroline believes this course is perfect for anyone looking to progress in teaching.

“I would recommend this course for any Teaching Assistants who are looking to update their qualifications, or for those looking to move into teaching,” says Caroline. “It gives you a good understanding of how children learn and develop.”

Caroline's previous education experience, combined with the support she has received from the College has greatly helped with the course.

“Being a mature student has benefited me as I have a vast amount of knowledge and experience that I can call upon to help me complete the assignments,” added Caroline. “The lectures and library staff are very helpful and provide you with plenty of support and guidance. The library has an excellent selection of books that you can access both online and in the higher education library.”

Studying the Education Learning and Development Foundation Degree at Gower College Swansea has inspired Caroline to seek a job with more responsibility, upon completion of her course.

Anyone wishing to follow in Caroline’s footsteps can apply for the Education Learning and Development Foundation Degree at Gower College Swansea.

The course provides you with an opportunity to achieve a degree that combines work-based activities and academic study with on-the-job learning.
