Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice and Theory Level 2 - Diploma
Overview
This Level 2 course is specifically designed for 16+ year-olds, to give you the essential knowledge and skills needed to start on a fulfilling career in childcare. The course provides the perfect starting point for your career in early years education, whether you want to work in nurseries, preschools, or as a childminder.
You will develop essential skills, knowledge, and practical experience to make a positive impact on the lives of young children. Over the year, you will attend work placement regularly and have taught sessions in college by friendly, supportive and knowledgeable staff.
Key information
- 2 GCSEs at grade C and at least a D in English Language, or a suitable level 1 course with a positive tutor report
- You must complete a DBS prior to enrolling on the course (approximately £40).
This full-time course has two elements: WJEC Level 2 Core and Level 2 Practice and Theory which will be completed over 1 academic year.
To achieve your Core qualification, we will prepare you to pass one multiple choice assessment.
To achieve the practice and theory qualification you will be supported to complete a placement portfolio. This will involve you observing and planning activities for children aged 0-7 years.
In addition, you will complete a theory exam based on content taught in class with a resit opportunity.
All assessments are graded pass or fail.
Passing this course will provide opportunities for you to apply for:
- Level 3 Extended Diploma Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development (full time or apprenticeship route)
- Employment in a day nursery or Flying Start setting as a supervised childcare practitioner
- Employment as a teaching assistant.
- We will help and support you to find a suitable placement when starting with us
- A clean DBS (police check) is required before you can start.
