Pottery and Ceramics
Overview
The emphasis on this course is based on traditional pottery and ceramic techniques. The idea is to enjoy the experience of working with clay and ceramic materials, to develop an individual artistic style and to gain knowledge through enjoyable practice.
Throughout the course you will be given the opportunity to experiment further with these techniques. The course also explores traditional and contemporary decorating, glazing and firing processes, and the techniques of hand building, throwing and slip casting.
Demonstrations will be given throughout the course encouraging you to build on your skills and develop your own approach. The course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some previous pottery and ceramic experience.
Each week you will need to attend a two-hour class, each process will be explained and you will be supported and advised in order to develop your own individual ideas, you will have a great deal of room for self expression within the parameters of the project criteria.
You will be encouraged to develop your ideas in a sketchbook or notebook in order to support your progress.
Key information
There is no set standard of ability or knowledge of ceramics or pottery necessary, just an enthusiastic, creative outlook.
As a result, techniques and best usage of materials will result naturally from student needs, encouraged and enabled by the tutor on an individual basis.
