Overview
This qualification is designed for qualified electricians who wish to progress their career in the electrotechnical sector, demonstrate their ability in electrical installation design, and gain a recognised qualification.
Key information
Learners should hold the Inspection and Testing qualification.
This qualification will be delivered at Gower College Swansea’s Energy Centre, based at Tycoch Campus, and will involve five consecutive full day tutorials, as well as a further 12 evening tutorials spread over eight months.
The qualification comprises of a single knowledge unit which has 35 guided learning hours, which covers:
- Relevant statutory and non-statutory requirements
- Electrical installation design
- Design and verification procedures
- Associated protective systems
- Aspects of environmental technologies
- Design calculations and the application of BS 7671, as well as related guidance in the safe and effective design of an installation
- Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Building Services Engineering (4467-04)
- ILM Management and Leadership qualifications
Learners will be required to purchase three books for the examination:
- IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations 2018 Amendment 2
- Guidance Note 3(updated to BS7671:1:2018+A2:2022)
- On-site Guide (updated to BS7671:2018+A2:2022)
Having an Inspection and Testing certificate would also be an advantage.
The following two books are also advisory, but are not allowed to be taken into the examination:
